On April 10, 2009….in Brooklyn, NY. I gave birth to my first baby…. I named it 80’s Sauce. It is my very first mix CD since embarking on my new found passion to DJ. Its an 80’s compilation for those grown folks like myself who remember when MTV did not show any black artists except Michael Jackson and Prince.

It’s not a flawless product, but I am very pleased with it. I’ve only been DJing since Dec. and this is just the first of many more to come. I hope you all enjoy!

Lately, it seems as if eye glasses have taken off as the growing fashion accessory trend of choice, particularly among the “hipsters” crowd. I am noticing a lot more young people who are rocking frames just for the sake of rocking them, not for actual prescriptive reasons. Certain popular hip-hop artists like Kanye West, Mickey Factz and The Cool Kids have certainly contributed to making the “nerdy” look popular.

Now, I don’t describe myself as true “hipster”, because I believe I am too old-school to truly say I am a part of THAT crowd, but I have recently found myself a pair of 50’s inspired “cat-eye” glasses and I’ve been rocking them as part of my signature style. Naturally, I have gotten a flood of compliments on the unique look of my frames. Of course, everyone who knows me knows I do not actually need glasses. I have 20/20 vision (thank God). However, my glasses are so bright and unique looking that no one can argue that it is pointless for me to wear them. Surely, if you see me out in the club or spinning at a party, you will always remember the girl with the bright red ‘old lady’ glasses with the rhinestones. And oddly enough, most of my compliments come from the guys.

What people don’t realize is these stylish frames are not hard to find and do not have to come at a high cost. Eyeglasses.com conveniently offers a variety of stylish choices of eye glasses for affordable prices. Cazals and Anglo- American glasses represent a couple of the more recently popular styles that fall under the retro-look that can also be found on their site. Of course, every style is certainly not workable for everybody. You must pick that which best suits your personality. I think mine suits my personality perfectly! Saucey, just like me!

What’s Up Your Nose, New York? December 26, 2008

habit-male-picking-nose-400a0625071This is a subject matter I have been dying to address for quite sometime now. One of the many things I have observed that was “different” about New Yorkers is there nonchalance with picking, or rather, DIGGING in their nose with their bare fingers… in public! I find it so revolting yet, oddly interesting. I have never experienced this action so blatantly displayed as I have during the times I lived and visited NYC.

I used to comment to my old boyfriend quite often about it, as he was also one who thought there was nothing wrong with using his finger to scrape around the inner sanctum of his nose, whenever and wherever the mood striked him. Yes, he was also a New Yorker.

When I was growing up, it was taught to me at a very young age, that it was socially unacceptable and just plain GROSS to be seen digging up your nose with your bare finger. I was taught that “nose picking” was to be done with a tissue and preferably out of the sight of others. But obviously, that is not a lesson that was shared by many others in the NY area. They literally think nothing of it here and they do it anywhere! The train, restaurants, church, bookstores, cabs….and right in front of anyone’s face!

Is it a coincidence that people engage in this act so freely here? Am I tripping or am I really on to something? I often rationalized my observation by telling myself that maybe the reason for the consistent and frequent nose picking sightings in NY was due to how ‘multicultural’ it is. Perhaps, other countries do not frown upon it as we (Americans) do. But then, if that theory reigned true, what was my old boyfriends excuse for doing it because he was certainly American?

I guess I may never gain full understanding about this one topic. Nevertheless, after several years of being disgusted by public nose diggers, I could not hold it in any longer. Thanks for letting me share.

angry-black-woman

Last night while I was at the Common show at Love, I behaved like a complete asshole to a guy who approached me in the club.  I fulfilled every stereotype of black women that is most hated by men.

I don’t know why I did it… Well, wait…actually I do know why.

I was minding my business (as usual) when a cornball approached me (as usual).  He asked me why did I shoot him a dirty look when he walked by?  Which I DID’NT.  But somehow, he thought asking me a question like that would be a good ‘lead-in’ to conversing with me and getting to know me.  WRONG MOVE.

I told him: “I looked at you that way cause you were looking goofy”

He said: “Woow, are you serious?  You’re cold.  Are you really serious?  I was looking goofy?”

At this point, I am amazed that he is still standing in front of me trying to find reason in my remark so…

I said: “How about you go buy me a drink” (this ought to make him leave me alone REAL QUICK)

He said (clearly appalled): “Oh, obviously you have not heard T-Pain’s new song”?

(Is this guy kidding me?)

I said: “Obviously YOU haven’t heard of a Tic-Tac or a breath mint. I believe they have some in the men’s bathroom.  You should use one first BEFORE you think about stepping to talk to a woman.”

He said: blah, blah, blah…

Then he walked away.  …upset and thoroughly annoyed …..probably as much with himself for even talking to me as he was with me for being such a bitch.

I felt a little bad afterwards.  Nevertheless, DAMMIT, I get tired of cornballs always coming up to me with something stupid to say.  WHY can’t I have a decent looking man approach me with something clever yet, NON-CORNY to talk about.  UGH!!  Is THAT really TOO MUCH to ask???

Anyway, my behavior was not good.  I admit it.  It happens sometimes.  I really do work hard to not make it a habit.  But every now and then, I throw an innocent cornball completely under the bus and no doubt cast upon him an even more validated outlook of how cruel, cold, bitchy greedy, stuck up and just plain rude some women (particularly black) can be.

Hey.  I’m sorry.  But most guys are constantly grabbing for attention from ANY woman….making it faaar too easy to dis them.

My thing is:  I really do love yall. … but, Black men need to start coming correct or do not come at all. That’s what many of them do not seem to get.  They hate us women because of our nasty attitude, but I don’t think they really see how ridiculous they look and sound with their approaches to us.

It’s a truly sad and vicious cycle of disrespect.  And one that I must work a little harder to not be a part of.

I’m Back! And dammit, I’m doing GOOD! October 22, 2008

I know its been waaaaay too long since I last posted…..but I’m back now !

So I read the book, The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success and it really left quite an invaluable impression on me. One of the most valuable lessons I learned from the book was the lesson about the Law of Giving.

Basically, it says that giving with a generous and joyful heart triggers the universe to return the generosity back to you in abundance. To that effect, I have noticed that rich people, even the asshole rich people…LOVE to give their money away to charitable causes. Being that I work in the field of fundraising for non-profits, I have seen many rich people give away hundreds of thousands of dollars away. Recently, I made a personal discovery that perhaps the reason rich people love giving away their money is because doing so actually keeps them rich. Marinate on that one for a bit.

So ANYHOO…back to me doing good. Today, I am very proud of myself because in the spirit of exercising the Law of Giving I gave away a perfectly good 27-inch TV that I had (namely because I just recently bought a flat screen TV that is waaaaaay cooler).

I belong to this online community called Freecycle.org where people give away and take free stuff. Some woman posted that she needed a TV and I had one so I emailed her to come get it.

When the woman arrived at my house to get the TV she was with her husband who was dressed head to toe in hunting apparel and he had a knife in his side belt. Clearly, I was dealing with rednecks of the truest form. Immediately I was little scared because A) these are strangers B) I am home alone and C) he has a big knife in his belt. Nevertheless, I let them in (crazy, I know) but I figured what logical reason would he have to kill me?  It’s not like I’m a deer or something!

So I gave them the TV and did not focus on the fact that they looked like two crazed rednecks who probably do not like black people and who kill innocent animals for sport. And I must admit, now that they have left with the TV and I am unharmed, I feel damn good about what I did. I feel even more confident that somehow the universe will reward me for my generous act and I plan to continue to practice the Law of Giving with a joyful heart as much as I can, no matter who the beneficiaries may be.

So I hear that for about 10,000 buckaroos, a trained physician can literally make a woman’s va-jay-jay “new and improved” through procedures called

If you ask me, ladies…. the concept of someone being able to make your hoo-ha “better” sounds like a bunch of hoo-ha to me.

This world really exhausts me sometimes with its madness. First Penis Extenders, now THIS!

No doubt, if I had the money, I would probably definitely sign-up for a little lipo around the gut and maybe even some ass augmentation, but re-virginization… I mean REALLY?!|!????

Who in their right mind wants to go through the agony of de-virginizing themselves AGAIN? As if the first time was not horrific enough.

Thats like crazy gluing a broken vase back together so that you can break again….why bother?

I seriously don’t know ANY woman whose ‘first time’ was so ‘kick-ass’ that she wants/needs to relive it again nor do I know any man that is like.. “Oh, I sure do wish my girlfriend/wife was a virgin again”.

Better yet, whose va-jay-jay is so ‘TORE UP’ that they feel vaginoplasty makes more sense for them rather than a few dozen  kegels?

I mean, DAMN… Is it THAT serious?

However, on second thought, now the idea of that “G-spot amplification” might be worth some looking into. I mean anything that makes you go “oooooohhhh” DOES DESERVE to be amplified, no?

I must say…The one-piece bathing suit/ monokinis have made quite an impression on me!

I actually think one-pieces are much sexier and I much prefer the look of a SEXY one-piece suit to that of a standard bikini.

Wearing a bikini is like swimming in your bra and underwear, but a SEXY one-piece says so much more!

I simply love the way it plays with a woman’s curves, leaving a lil something behind for the imagination.

Today’s swimwear designers are doing a fantastic job of bringing SEXY back to the one- piece and I LOVE IT!

PS: Victoria’s Secret has an EXCELLENT array from which a girl can choose

I HATE POLITICS! August 1, 2008

Ever Since Clarence Thomas asked Anita Hill Who put the pubic hair on his Coke… I have hated politics.

I hate talking about it, reading about it, joking about it and hearing other people comment on it in general.

It’s quite a contradiction that I feel so strongly against this subject matter, yet I live in DC, because politics is ALL people around here EVER want to talk about.  I mean like… EVERY FRICKIN DAY!

It bores me to tears.

Sure, my ears perk up a little at the occasional scandal or two… (i.e. Monica Lewinsky, Scooter Libby etc…) But for the most part, I’d rather pass on the opportunity to have conversations about Bills, Press Secretaries, Foreign Policies, Lobbyists etc…

I know it sounds ridiculous to some, but I’d much rather talk about Celebritards like Britney Spears, Brangelina, and Amy Winehouse.

Forgive me, but it’s a hellauva lot more entertaining to discuss which two celebritards are having a baby this week than to discuss how Congress just issued a formal apology for the act of slavery and Jim Crow in America.

Faaar more interesting indeed, if you ask me.

I Got My Bells Rocked! July 31, 2008

I had the pleasure of being offered a free ticket and introduction to the infamous Rock the Bells Concert last Sunday at the Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, Maryland.

I started not to go, because I had a BIG project due for class that next day that I was trying to finish, but when I heard the line-up of artists that were going to be featured, I really could not pass up that opportunity. It was like one of those few moments in life that I just would not have felt right passing up.

It was an all day concert (11am-11pm) so I figured it wouldn’t hurt if I snuck away from my work long enough to catch the last three acts in their entirety. I got there about 6:30pm and according to my friends who had been there since 2:30pm, I missed Meth, Redman, Rakim, Cool Kids, Wale and a whole bunch of others tear the stage DOWN!

I did manage, however to catch my favorites… Mos Def, Nas and Tribe Called Quest. WHAT LUCK!!!???

INCREDIBLE is the only word I can think of to describe what I witnessed.

I have seen all these artists perform in various venues over the course of the last 10-15 years, but never at Rock the Bells. I must say, they really bought the best of what they do and really did ROCK THE BELLS… Literally!

I equate the experience to a feeling of falling in love with hip-hop all over again! It made me proud to be a part of the culture.

If you have never attended a Rock the Bells Concert… and you LOVE Hip-Hop… I highly recommend that you treat yourself to that experience.

It’s the best ticket in town.
